MLB Wednesday 9th

Welcome back to a small little preview of a couple of selected MLB games. Nice to get back to winning ways after a rough end to last week. The previews will be coming thick and fast over the remainder of the season as teams look to push for playoff spots. In previous seasons I’ve tend to do well around this time of the season as betting on certain teams at value becomes a must and some teams you just flat out avoid. One day at a time though.

Wednesday 9th
Best Bet –  Dbacks $2.00 (1u)
Next Best – Orioles $1.99 (0.5u)
Double –  Red Sox/Astros $2.01 (0.5u)
Double –  Cubs/Braves $TBD

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Dodgers (11.40am AEST)
Dbacks ($2.00) – Godley (5-4, 2.86 ERA)
Dodgers ($1.84) –Maeda (10-4, 3.79 ERA)

The Dodgers are making a joke of the league at the moment, pulling off the best record of a 50 game stretch in MLB History. Quiet possibly could end up with the best all time season record as well. Winners of 13 of their last 14 games, there doesn’t look to be a way to stop them. The Arizona Diamondbacks will make a hell of an attempt though, with only to wild card to be realistically playing for a series win over the Dodgers would make quiet the statement. Zack Godley gets the start for them and his stop start of a season has been pretty solid. A 2-1 record and 3.08 ERA at Chase field over 6 starts is nothing to sneeze at. The .144 BAA in said ballpark is even more impressive. For the surging Dodgers it will be Kenta Maeda who’s last few starts have been whats expected. After a shaky streak he looks to have got back to his best. His work on the road hasn’t been his strongest though where he holds 4.74 ERA over 9 starts. A career 4.91 ERA at Chase Field. It’s always going to be hard to go against the Dodgers but when I can get even money for the Dbacks at home I’m likely to take it no matter the opponent.  They are due a loss and considering they lost 2 games there back in April I’m taking a shot at them dropping one here. The price dictates the play here as It’s overall a pretty even pitching matchup. Arizona at home are 36-18 so the even money is value.

Suggested Bet –  Dbacks $2.00

Los Angeles Angels vs Baltimore Orioles (12.07am AEST)
Angels ($1.85) – Bridwell (5-1, 3.20 ERA)
Orioles ($1.99) – Hellickson (7-5, 4.45 ERA)

Here come the Orioles. Back into the Wild card race after a strong start to the season slipped away, the Orioles look rejuvenated since the All Star break. Going 8-2 over their last 10 games there seems to be a buzz around the team again. I really like the addition of Jeremy Hellickson to the team, and his first start for them was successful, going 7 innings giving up 5 hits and 0 runs. A change back to the AL, where he was rather good earlier in his career, may be a good move. Ironic for a pitcher. For the Angels it will be youngster Parker Bridwell who has a had a nice 2nd year in the majors. It’s at home however he has struggled with a 4.24 ERA and .311 BAA over 5 starts. Both lineups can put up runs and I actually like the overs on the game aswell as the ML. Taking the Orioles to stay hot though, back to .500 they need to keep the wheels in motion to push for the Wild Card. They have sort of been left out of the conversation while slowly going about their business.

Suggested Bet –  Orioles $1.99

Other Games

San Francisco Giants vs Chicago Cubs
The Cubbies are finally playing consistent baseball, and it seems to have lined up with the addition of Jose Quintana. Now atop the NL central, money would be on them to stay there. Against a pretty limp Giants lineup I like them to take Game 2 of this series with Quintana on the mound against Ty Blach. Cubs at $1.55

Atlanta Braves vs Philadelphia Phillies
The Braves have been pretty good at home this season and whileTeheran hasn’t been his best, he is still their ace. Philadelphia as has been the norm over the last few season at this point have not much to play for and have put up some pretty lacklustre displays lately. 17-41 on the road is extremely poor. While they did sweep the Braves a few weeks back at home, its the road journey that seems to always get them. Braves with price to be determined.

All Prices Quoted via Crown Bet at time of writing.

Hopefully your thoughts on the games match up with mine. As always these are only a select few games I was interested in, feel free to share your opinions on any games at @MLB_TheProfits on Twitter. Happy Punting.
