English Premier League 2017/18 – Game Week 29

English Premier League - Football

Another fun filled weekend of English Premier League action is upon us here. Headlined by Manchester City hosting Chelsea, there’s plenty of opportunity to make important gains for a number of sides this weekend. A loss for Chelsea and a win for Tottenham gives Tottenham a handy 5 point buffer in 4th spot. Further down the table the scrap for survival is well and truly on, though it looks like it’s going to be a long final 10 matches for West Brom. The Baggies are dead last on 20 points, 7 points off safety and have a tough trip away to Watford this weekend. Anything can happen of course, but right now things are not looking good.

Week 29 Best Bet: Swansea to win either half vs West Ham at $1.77

Week 29 Best Value Bet: Tottenham to beat Huddersfield & Over 3.5 goals at $2.63

Week 29 Head to Head Multi Bet: Swansea Win ($2.5), Tottenham Win ($1.14), Manchester City Win ($1.53), Manchester United Win ($1.5) = $6.54

**Odds from Sportsbet.com.au as of 1st March

Headline Fixtures

Manchester City vs Chelsea

This is a massive game for Chelsea having slipped out of the top 4 last week when they lost away to Manchester United and they’re now in danger of giving Tottenham a 5 point lead in 4th assuming they beat Huddersfield this weekend and Chelsea lose here. The timing for Chelsea though isn’t great having to face Manchester City away from home. City still have a lot of motivation about their play as they look to cruise their way to the title and they’ll do so by putting Chelsea’s defence under a lot of pressure here. The Blues have lost 3 of their last 4 conceding  goals in the process. City though have not lost a game at home this season piling on a massive 50 goals against their 14 opponents they’ve played thus far. There’s the possibility of course that Conte gets tactical here from a defensive standpoint but regardless of the tactics, Chelsea don’t look like they have the desire or defensive personnel to put a dent in City’s expected performance here.

Predicted Result: Manchester City 3-1

Best Bet: Manchester City to win at $1.53

Best Value Bet: Manchester City to win & Over 2.5 goals at $2.3

Remaining Fixtures

Burnley vs Everton

Burnley haven’t won at home in 5 matches but Everton are travelling that badly at the moment that this might be the return to winning ways for the home side. Everton have won just once on the road this season and their recent form has been inconsistent at best with 3 losses in their last 6. It’ll be a competitive contest but expect Burnley to keep it tight and break through for a much need win to gain some momentum back.

Predicted Result: Burnley 1-0

Best Bet: Under 2.5 Goals at $1.47

Best Value Bet: Burnley to win at $2.4

Leicester vs Bournemouth

Leicester were kept to a draw last weekend and were well matched in the end by Stoke who were unlucky not to take the 3 points thanks to a poor piece of keeping by Jack Butland. Bournemouth have dipped a little in their last 2 matches having won their previous 2 against Chelsea and Stoke. They’ve been competitive enough though and Leicester will need to be at their best to win here but on last week’s evidence they have some work to do.

Predicted Result: Draw 1-1

Best Bet: BTTS – Yes at $1.62

Best Value Bet: BTTS & Draw at $4.5

Southampton vs Stoke

The Saints have the 2nd worst home record in the league heading into this match with just 3 wins in 15 matches. The flipside of course though is that Stoke have the worst away record in the league taking just 7 points from 14 matches. They are however in a scrap for survival sitting in 19th and just a point off survival. On last week’s showing at Leicester, they look up for the fight and if they show the same intent then there’s no reason they can’t get at least a point here.

Predicted Result: Draw 2-2

Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $1.98

Best Value Bet: Half-Time Draw at $2.1

Swansea vs West Ham

The Swans are another side in a fight for survival and they’d been in form until their loss at Brighton last time out 4-1. They host a side this weekend though that isn’t particularly consistent and have lost their last 2 away from home. Swansea look like a side more up for the fight at the moment and should get a win here.

Predicted Result: Swansea 2-1

Best Bet: Swansea to win either half at $1.77

Best Value Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $2.5

Tottenham vs Huddersfield

Tottenham are on the charge at the moment and are yet to lose a league game in 2018 which presents a massive challenge for Huddersfield here. The newly promoted have struggled on the road for goals too and with Tottenham conceding just the 9 goals at home all season, it may be a struggle once again.

Predicted Result: Tottenham 4-0

Best Bet: Tottenham to score 3 or more goals at $1.91

Best Value Bet: Tottenham to win & Over 3.5 goals at $2.63

Watford vs West Brom

The Baggies didn’t take their opportunities last time out and have now lost 4 in a row. Watford on the other hand have won 2 of their last 3 and are undefeated in their last 3 at home. If the Baggies are to survive this season then they better start fighting soon but Watford may just be a little too strong for them on current form.

Predicted Result: Watford 2-1

Best Bet: Watford to win either half at $1.58

Best Value Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $2.16

Liverpool vs Newcastle

Sitting pretty comfortable in 3rd place, Liverpool are well place to keep their position on the table unless there’s an upset. Newcastle defensively have been good at times this season and there’s every chance they may setup to frustrate Liverpool’s attack here and they have after all only lost one of their last 5 away from home. No matter the score line though, it’s difficult to see Liverpool losing as they have the offensive talent to find a way regardless.

Predicted Result: Liverpool 2-1

Best Bet: BTTS – Yes at $1.83

Best Value Bet: Half-Time Draw at $2.8

Brighton vs Arsenal

This is an interesting match here because Arsenal have been struggling losing their last 3 away from home (not including the impending result of their league match against Manchester City late this week). Defensively they look vulnerable and their midfield and attack right now look lost despite the star power they have on paper. The problem is that whilst they’ve produced the odd good performance, they just don’t look like the certain winners as you would have thought in previous seasons when heading into a match like this. The players look like they have zero confidence and that may turn into a telling result here with Brighton undefeated in their last 4 and looking for a big scalp.

Predicted Result: Draw 2-2

Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $1.74

Best Value Bet: Over 3.5 goals at $2.97

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

Palace’s squad is still decimated and whilst they pushed Tottenham all the way last weekend for a 1-0 loss, Manchester United may not be as forgiving. United of course have been inconsistent recently but they have the quality to make sure of another victory here.

Predicted Result: Manchester United 2-1

Best Bet: Manchester United to win at $1.5

Best Value Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $1.96

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
