English Premier League 2017/18 – Game Week 11

English Premier League - Football

There’s a clear leader at the top of the table after 10 matches with Manchester City currently enjoying a 5 point buffer over 2nd placed Manchester United. Leads are there to be chased though and Week 11 presents an interesting round of fixtures that see both the top 2 sides face difficult opponents. Manchester City host Arsenal whilst Manchester United head to Chelsea in fixtures that promise to be hotly contested. A stumble for either or both sides would certainly make things interesting with Chelsea looking to close the gap on United to a point whilst Tottenham in 3rd would love nothing more than their fellow Londoners to deal a blow to the Manchester clubs. Either way, it’s a timely round of fixtures that will certainly headline another weekend of packed Premier League action.

Week 11 Head to Head Multi Bet: Southampton win ($1.62), Tottenham win (1.25), Manchester City win ($1.4), Stoke/Leicester Draw ($3.3) = $9.35

Headline Fixtures

Manchester City vs Arsenal

Last 5 meetings (All competitions): Arsenal 2, Manchester City 1, Draws 2

Arsenal have had the edge over City in recent seasons, but the 2017/18 season looks a whole lot different. Arsenal have had their ups and downs this season and for the most part have been far from convincing. Even in their last league match they had to come from a goal down to narrowly get past a stubborn Swansea side. Defensively they just don’t seem to have the solidity they need to be competing for a top 4 place, albeit they sit in 5th just from goal difference. It’s this area of their performances thus far this season that leaves them vulnerable to a Manchester City side that have scored plenty of goals this season with 35. Goals of course are not a guarantee and Arsenal may look to approach this with a similar amount of caution when they held Chelsea to a scoreless draw in December. City though look very confident at the moment and although they may not score in a ruthless fashion this weekend, they should be winners nonetheless.

Predicted Result: Manchester City 2-1

Best Bet: Both Teams to score – Yes at $1.45

Best Value Bet: Half-Time Draw at $2.6

Chelsea vs Manchester United

Last 5 meetings (All competitions): Chelsea 2, Manchester United 1, Draws 2

This match certainly has the making of a game of chess with Mourinho facing off against Conte. Last season the spoils were shared with both sides winning their home encounters with relative comfort but this season may be a lot closer. United under Jose love the defensive part of the game against the bigger clubs such as when they just beat Tottenham last weekend thanks to a late Martial goal. With Chelsea looking to chase down United amongst Tottenham and City, they’ll be pretty keen to not allow United many opportunities to score either and it may take a goal much like it took Martial against Spurs to break the deadlock in this one. Against title rivals thus far this season, United have been held to a scoreless draw with Liverpool and a narrow win against Tottenham 1-0. For Chelsea they’ve had it tougher but the results are similarly narrow with a 2-1 win over Tottenham, a scoreless draw with Arsenal and more recently a 1-0 loss against Manchester City. Even if this match produces goals, expect the end result to be tight.

Predicted Result: Draw 0-0

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals at $1.61

Best Value Bet: Number of goals – 0 or 1 at $2.88

Remaining Fixtures

Stoke vs Leicester

Last 5 meetings (All competitions): Leicester 2, Draws 2, Stoke 1

The Potters managed an away win last time out at Watford which gives them a great lead-in to their home fixture here against Leicester who are on a decent run. Leicester are undefeated in their last 4 winning their last 2 against Swansea & Everton. Given Stoke found some momentum last time out, it should be enough to see this one through to a draw.

Predicted Result: Draw 1-1

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals at $1.83

Best Value Bet: Draw at $3.3

Huddersfield vs West Brom

Last 5 meetings (All competitions):

After such a dramatic win at home over Manchester United, Huddersfield were quickly brought back to Premier League reality when they lost 3-0 away at Liverpool. Home is where they play their best football though having captured 8 of their 12 points at home with just the sole loss thus far. West Brom have a lot of work to do to improve their away record having lost 3 of their last 4 so they may find this another difficult day with Huddersfield looking to bounce back at home.

Predicted Result: Huddersfield 2-1

Best Bet: Huddersfield Draw no Bet at $1.74

Best Value Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $2.7

Newcastle vs Bournemouth

Last 5 meetings (All competitions):

With 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses in their last 6, Newcastle have been consistently inconsistent. Besides that, they’ve been pretty competitive this season and their home record is strong enough to see them to another positive result this weekend. Bournemouth have been competitive enough but simply haven’t got the job down which sees them dwindling down in 19th. Another tough road trip here may see them down near the bottom a little while longer.

Predicted Result: Newcastle 2-1

Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $2

Best Value Bet: Newcastle to win and BTTS at $4

Southampton vs Burnley

Last 5 meetings (All competitions): Southampton 3, Burnley 2

Neither side has been able to score consistently this season with 9 apiece after 10 games. Defensively they have both been solid as well with Southampton letting just the 10 goals slip through to Burnley’s 9. Burnley’s issue though is that they are a little softer away from home having conceded 7 of their 9 goals on the road. That perhaps gives Southampton the edge in what should be a tight contest.

Predicted Result: Southampton 1-0

Best Bet: Southampton to win at $1.62

Best Value Bet: Southampton to win to Nil at $2.4

Swansea vs Brighton

Last 5 meetings (All competitions):

This game could go either way. Swansea have so far had a really poor start at home having lost 4 of their 5 home games whilst Brighton have shown they can cause an upset such as their last away win when they beat the Hammers 3-0. It does however look like a big ask for Brighton to back that away result up here albeit they have been difficult to beat recently.

Predicted Result: Swansea 2-1

Best Bet: Swansea to win either half at $1.7

Best Value Bet: Swansea to win at $2.3

West Ham vs Liverpool

Last 5 meetings (All competitions): West Ham 2, Liverpool 1, Draws 2

It’s difficult to trust either side in this one. West Ham have been horrible but have a side on paper capable of producing better results. Liverpool on the other hand are suffering from a lack of strength and quality in defence. On one hand we may see Liverpool come out and absolutely belt West Ham but on the other hand there’s an element of “can you trust Liverpool to produce week in week out?” My answer is no and so a draw could be the way to go

Predicted Result: Draw 2-2

Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $1.6

Best Value Bet: Over 3.5 goals at $2.58

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace

Last 5 meetings (All competitions): Tottenham 4, Crystal Palace 1

An incredible 3-1 win over Real Madrid during the week could be the driving force behind what happens for Tottenham for the remainder of the season. That level of belief and confidence could make t another tough day here for Palace. Spurs will have their injury concerns with Alderweirald going down with a hamstring and some concerns over Lloris but they are showing they have the depth now to compete in all competitions. Palace look set to be unfortunate bystanders in this one as they look to get off the bottom of the table.

Predicted Result: Tottenham 4-0

Best Bet: Tottenham to lead at Half-Time at $1.62

Best Value Bet: Tottenham -2 Handicap at $3

Everton vs Watford

Last 5 meetings (All competitions): Everton 1, Watford 1, Draws 2

Everton are in desperate need of a win as they sit inside the relegation zone. That win will be difficult to come by now with Watford on the back foot after back to back losses. Whilst they do currently have the 4th best away record in the league, they haven’t won on the road since 24th September. Everton are surely due a win as they have a far better squad than what their table position currently is.

Predicted Result: Everton 2-1

Best Bet: Everton to win either half at $1.54

Best Value Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $1.98

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
