UK Horse Racing Form – Lingfield, Musselburgh, Fakenham – Monday 10 December 2012

Horse Racing - Australia

After witnessing Sprinter Sacre brush aside Sanctuaire on Saturday it was Flemenstar who now had the opportunity to take centre stage, and confirm himself as a real festival prospect. A convincing five-length victory over the well-thought of Sir Des Champs did just that, as the seven-year-old put in a scintillating performance in the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown. Jockey Andrew Lynch set out to make every post a winning one, dictating throughout the race on Flemenstar. Peter Casey’s superstar jumped superbly, ears pricked throughout and was clearly a horse at the top of his game. This was some performance to make a two-time festival winner, Sir Des Champs who was unbeaten since joining Willie Mullins, look rather ordinary. Davy Russell was hard at work struggling to match the leaders pace. Last year’s winner, Ruby Light struggled to get involved and was well held a distant third. His victory has triggered a lot of debate on twitter, whether he’ll get 3m+ with a festival pace is hard to tell. But what we do know is he is improving with every run, has form over 3m in a point-to-point and is breed to stay. He certainly wasn’t stopping crossing the line yesterday and you’d have to feel the fairytale is only just beginning.
