US Open Day 1

us open

Welcome to the Day 1 Preview of the US Open for The Profits. There will be no future plays for this tournament at this stage, but I will keep you posted as the tournament progresses.

I have taken some feedback on board from followers over the last few months and put it into practice here. As always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have (@Ace_TheProfits) and as always, I hope you back a winner!

Shapovalov vs Medvedev

Pretty comfortable siding with Shapovalov here in the best of 5 set format against Medvedev.  Shapovalov has put together a VERY impressive month of tennis, with wins over Nadal, Del Potro and Mannarino amongst a number of others. Shapovalov also put up a very spirited performance against Zverev in the Montreal semi final, performing far more competitively than Medvedev managed to be in Washington against Zverev.

Speaking of Medvedev, he hasn’t quite hit the heights that myself and many others had expected this year, however like Shapovalov he is still very young and certainly has time on his side. After wins over Johnson and Dimitrov in Washington, Medvedev has backed this up with losses to Zverev, Mannarino, Fognini and Edmund leading into the US Open.

On overall form, it is difficult not to side with Shapovalov here. The big unknown here is both players and their limited experience in best of 5 set tennis. Medvedev holds a 1-3 record (only win over an injured Wawrinka) and Shapovalov 0-1 and a DQ for hitting the chair umpire in the face with a ball.

Overall, I am pretty keen to side with Shapovalov to get the job done. The North American crowd should side with the Canadian, and I think he has the game to top Medvedev over the 5 set format, especially considering his decent qualifying form.

Suggested Bet:

4 units Shapovalov to defeat Medvedev at $1.75 at Pinnacle ($1.80 Bet365)

WTA – Begu vs Kozlova

I was very impressed with the qualifying form of Kozlova. After dominant wins over Paquet and Stollar, Kozlova then had to come from a set down to beat Schmiedlova, which she managed to do quite convincingly, winning 6-1 in the third set. It was a very impressive 3 matches from Kozlova, who has been up and down throughout 2017.

Outside of winning her home tournament on clay, Begu hasn’t had a particularly impressive 2017. She is coming into the US Open after a straight sets loss to Cepelova. Begu holds a 5 wins and 10 losses record for the year to date, so I feel like she could be slightly vulnerable here.

I think the combination of Kozlova being able to get three matches under her belt, as well as Begu’s suspect form leading into the tournament, makes the +3.5 games on off for Kozlova here to be incredibly appealing. I was also considering Kozlova to win the first set, or to simply win outright, however have decided on a higher stakes play on the +3.5 games.

Suggested Bet

4 units Kozlova +3.5 games vs Begu at $1.93 at Pinnacle
