2013 Wimbledon – Day 2

Tennis

Hello all, apologies for the short write-up for today’s play. I have been in transit for most of the day so writing time and internet access has been at a premium.

Recapping yesterday, and it was a couple of near misses that outweighed some solid winners. Rosol was upset in 5 tough sets, and as a result blew the 3 leg multi. Donskoy couldn’t replicate the form of last week against Isner, failing to pinch a set off the American and ultimately leaving Isner 0.5 games short of the total. Malisse also found himself on the bad end of the stick vs Verdasco. That being said, it was absolutely terrific to see Lleyton Hewitt defeat Wawrinka in straight sets, as well as Goffin over 11.5 games.

The surprise of the day, and possibly the tournament has to be Steve Darcis. Regardless of injury concerns over Nadal, that truly was a sensational performance to win in straight sets. Can he back it up round 2?

I will endeavour to update plays with write-ups later if time permits. Normal previews will return as of tomorrow.
