2017 Champion’s League – Round Of 16

champions league

The remaining round of 16 fixtures finish up this week and there’s some cracking contests at hand here where going off the first legs, anything could happen here.

Wednesday morning sees Juventus hosting a Porto side that they beat relatively comfortably 2-0 away from home in the first leg. They really should be able to just put in a regulation performance here in order to progress through to the next stage. The other match taking place looks a little different and although their league form doesn’t warrant progression, Leicester have a hand away goal heading into their home leg down 2-1 to Sevilla. The key for Leicester here will be keeping a clean sheet because if they can’t then they will surely miss out on the next stage. Sevilla is a strong side and it looks more likely that they will score than not to score.

The final two matches of this stage take place Thursday morning where the reverse fixtures produced 14 goals between them. Monaco in particular will be looking to be on the front foot against Manchester City and based on City’s inability at times this season to keep things tight at the back, this one looks wide open. It looks a little different in Atletico Madrid’s circumstances taking a 4-2 lead into their home leg here. Bayer Leverkusen are simply just up against a superior side here and getting through to the next stage will be a massive upset.

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
