English Premier League Week 3 Game Predictions, Tips and Bets

English Premier League - Football

Welcome to the English Premier League Week 3 game predictions, tips and bets from JL. This week sees the Premier League stage 9 games this weekend, with Chelsea and Reading taking a break. What an incredible few weeks we’ve witnessed as well as the craziness of the transfer window which closes this week. Besides Chelsea, it’s hard to deny that Swansea have been one of the best performed teams so far with their slick passing and killer instinct at the goals. There’s a couple of tough games this week in Wigan Vs Stoke and Liverpool Vs Arsenal with the majority of the remaining being regulation wins – Though let’s not forget how quickly a win can turn into a draw such as Tottenham’s luck on the weekend.

We hope to provide you with a little overview of the weekend matches to help you make informed and sound betting decisions. Feel free to give us your feedback, suggestions and opinions on any of the games; we’d love to hear it!

For those who do not bet with Betfair, laying a team is the same as betting the double chance on most totes for the team we expect to win or draw.

1st September Fixture

West Ham ($2.68) Vs Fulham ($2.88), Draw ($3.45)

The last time Fulham visited Upton Park it ended all square at 1-1. Results last week didn’t go well for either team so this week they will be looking to rectify their form. Martin Jol’s men are looking competitive this season and with a close match against United, their early season form should help them take the points. Players to watch for the hammers are Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan who looked threatening in the final 3rd. While Fulham have Duff and Petric, they will sorely miss Dembele who has a pending transfer to Tottenham, and Dempsey hasn’t started a game this season with his future uncertain at the club.

Predicted result: Draw 1-1
Betting option: None

2nd September Fixture

Swansea ($2.28) Vs Sunderland ($3.50), Draw ($3.45)

Swansea host the black cats at Liberty stadium, the last time these two met it ended in a stalemate, however this time around JL predict that the swans will be too strong for Martin O’Neill’s team. The early season form of Swansea has seen them score 8 goals in their first two games and at home we believe they will deliver another entertaining performance. Watch out for Michu to get on the score sheet again with his fine form, as well as Danny Graham.

Predicted result: Swansea 3-1
Betting option: Lay Sunderland at $3.50

Tottenham ($1.40) Vs Norwich ($9.80), Draw ($5.30)

The Spurs will be looking to register their first win against struggling Norwich. With exciting transfers coming in before the transfer window closes, Spurs fans can expect some exciting names to join the club before Friday’s deadline. Both teams have only a single point to account for their first 2 games and with the Canaries stealing a 1-2 win at white hart lane last time, this could be an interesting encounter. JL believe that Tottenham this time round will be too strong at home and will record their first win for the season. Player to watch for is Adebayor  – if he’s given a starting opportunity he will be dangerous in front of goal.

Predicted Result: Tottenham 2-0
Betting option: Lay Norwich at $9.80

West Brom ($3.15) Vs Everton ($2.52), Draw ($3.45)

West Brom is off to a flying start and so too are Everton their opposition this weekend. With strong wins against Liverpool and Man Utd respectively this match looks to be a closely fought game. Home advantage could be the only thing separating these two sides, a hard one to call as WBA have had their luck with two penalties in the first game and a last minute injury time equaliser in the last game.  Don’t be surprised if Dave Moyes men take the three points with their fine form away. Steven Pienaar, Fellaini, Baines and Jelavic are in sparkling form and look too strong for WBA. Also look for Lukaku to start – His imposing presence coming off the bench against Spurs changed the game.

Predicted result: Everton 2-1
Betting option: None

Wigan ($2.28) Vs Stoke ($3.60), Draw ($3.40)

A tough fixture with Stoke visiting the DW stadium should see a very close contest. Stoke defended strongly against a very attacking Arsenal team last week that couldn’t find the back of the net. Wigan is coming off a strong win against Southampton away which should give them plenty of confidence facing Stoke in front of a rowdy home crowd. The past 4 meetings at the DW stadium have seen 3 draws and a win to Wigan. It will be interesting to see how the loss of Moses to Chelsea affects Wigan, but it shouldn’t dent their confidence or ability to get a result.

Predicted result: Wigan 2-1
Betting option: Lay Stoke at $3.60

Manchester City ($1.20) Vs QPR ($19.50), Draw ($8.00)

This is really a regulation win for Manchester City when they host QPR at home. QPR have certainly brought in plenty of names but is it panic buying after that humiliating 5-0 defeat in week 1? One would have to think so with all the defenders and keepers they have been linked with in the past few days. The problem this brings is there is little time for them to gel and get used to playing together, at least in the short term.  City have lost their main striker in Aguero, but to be able to have Tevez step in for goal scoring duties with support from Ballotelli and Dzeko, they shouldn’t have any trouble scoring.

Predicted result: Manchester City 3-0
Betting option: Over 2.5 Goals at $1.33

3rd September Fixture

Liverpool ($2.08) Vs Arsenal ($3.95), Draw ($3.55)

An Arsenal side desperate for a win travelling to Anfield against a Liverpool team that found a bit of form in the unlucky draw against Manchester City, should provide an enticing battle. Liverpool should be strengthened by the loan signing of Sahin from Real Madrid. Sahin will provide creativity to a Liverpool midfield missing this key factor ever since the loss of Xabi Alonso. If he can adjust quickly to his new team mates, expect him to excel. With Agger to slot back into defence, Liverpool certainly have things working in their favour for once. Arsenal can take confidence in the fact they have not lost to Liverpool in their past 5 meetings at Anfield (2 wins). But the question marks remain over their ability to score and must be noted that RVP scored the 2 goals when they beat Liverpool at Anfield 2-1 back in March.

Predicted result: Liverpool 2-1
Betting option: Lay Arsenal at $3.95

Newcastle ($1.65) V Aston Villa ($6.20), Draw ($4.00)

What more can you say about Aston Villa except they are certainly looking destined for a relegation battle after a miserable start to the season and their confidence shot. Travelling to Newcastle is a tough ask for any team, even more so for Villa in their current form. Villa will be banking on Bent to provide the goal scoring power they so desperately need. The issue for Villa is that Newcastle has won 4 of their past 5 (1 draw) at St James park against Villa and you can expect this form to continue. Watch for Ba to find the back of the net again.

Predicted Result: Newcastle 2-0
Betting option: Newcastle to win at $1.65

Southampton ($6.60) V Manchester United ($1.59), Draw ($4.40)

Bouncing back from a loss at home to Wigan would have surely dented Southampton’s confidence after a startling first up performance where they provided a big scare against Manchester City in week 1. With Rooney out for 4-6 weeks with a deep gash in his thigh, RVP should relish in being the focal point for United in much the same way as he was at Arsenal. If Southampton can play the way they did against City in week 1, they can certainly snatch an unlikely draw, but realistically Manchester United should run away with an easy win.

Predicted result: Manchester United 3-0
Betting option: Manchester United to win at $1.59

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
