UK Horse Racing Form – Newbury, Thurles, Taunton, Uttoxeter and Kempton – Thursday 29 November 2012

Horse Racing - Australia

Attention turns to Saturday and the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury. Declarations are made tomorrow and we are getting the impression that Bob’s Worth will run. It is surprising to see him so short for the feature race though at 3/1, with trainer Nicky Henderson not entirely convinced by conditions. There is no doubt the seven-year-old would go on ground with a bit of juice in it but it’s the distance that concerns his trainer. 3m2f can take it’s toll on any horse, let alone fighting against conditions as well. It isn’t the ideal start to the season Nicky Henderson had in mind for his exciting chaser.

What is apparent is that if Bob’s Worth does run, we are likely to oppose him. There is no doubt that he is one of the most consistent horses around winning seven times from just ten starts and never finishing out of the top three. However, his inexperience as a chaser is concerning running just four times over fences coupled with the fact the ground could prove disadvantageous over the trip, he looks on the skinny side.

On first look Paul Nicholls Tidal Bay stands out. However, it seems we’re not the first to have him on our shortlist as the eleven-year-old has already been punted in from 10’s to 7/1. The Package, Frisco Depot and First Lieutenant have also all been lively in the betting ring.
