UK Horse Racing Form – Newmarket, Chepstow, Fairyhouse, York, Hexham and Wolverhampton – Saturday 13

Horse Racing - Australia

Newmarket puts on a real treat for punters today on Future Champions Day, with an all-action packed card including the marathon handicap, the Cesarewitch and Group One action in the Dewhurst and Middle Park Stakes. It’s sure to be a busy one at Rowley Mile with the likes of unbeaten Dawn Approach taking to the stage in the Dewhurst. Perhaps the most intriguing race of them all is the Middle Park Stakes where another unbeaten colt, Reckless Abandon takes to the field. Abandoned by Adam Kirby, he faces his stiffest task yet as Moohaajim looks to try and reverse the form having been so impressive in the Mill Reef latest. It’s a clash we have had on our minds all week, trying to make a solid argument for both counter-parts. Moohaajim is definitely one to take seriously having won on his debut at Ascot before meeting traffic problems in Deauville behind Reckless Abandon. He demonstrated his talent when landing the Group Two, Mill Reef in convincing fashion. His claims are probably bolstered further with Adam Kirby, deciding to abandon the unbeaten Reckless Abandon to ride Moohaajim today. A decision riddled with controversy and one that has not pleased trainer Clive Cox. Gerald Mosse has flown over from France to take the ride today for the dismissive Adam Kirby. Many will argue Reckless Abandon is too shorter price with Moohaajim clearly improving and the Clive-Cox trained two-year-old with a criticism to hang left against him. Ultimately, class will tell and we feel Reckless Abandon possesses bundles. He is no doubt one of the best two-year-olds around at the moment and Clive Cox is right to expect big things from him. I remember reading an article a few weeks ago, describing how Clive regards him as ‘the’ best horse he has ever trained – some statement. The way he crosses the line with his ears still pricked leaves the impression he still has a lot more to give. He is going to face more and more of the sort of challenges he faces today and we will learn a lot more about him in time. We feel he is definitely one to keep on side and will look a class act if landing the Group One, Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket today. Cristoforo Colombo has been well-supported all morning now as short as 9/2 but we can’t see him getting involved in this field. Gale Force Ten is a horse to keep in your notebook, but Aidan continues to run him over inadequate trips and it will be interesting to see how he travels today. He is likely to get outpaced in a crucial point in the race, he is really bred for 1m+ races. At 14/1 he could be worth a nibble for a place.
