AFL 2012 Season – Round 5 Game Preview

AFL 2017

We put up Essendon as our tip in the ANZAC day clash which obviously lost by 1 point (we had the margin at 5). We went 3/3 on our bets last week which was very nice for the pocket. Also if you followed twitter we put up an additional two which also won (both 1-39 bets).

As always, we love to hear your feedback and thoughts so @TheProfitsComAu and we will comment/retweet!

Fremantle Dockers ($2.30) vs Carlton Blues ($1.65) – Friday 6:45pm AWST – 27/04/2012
Recent clashes: Dockers have won 4 of the last 7 with Blues winning the last clash by 30
AFL Tipping: 59% Dockers 41% Blues
Game preview: Fyfe and Griffin big ins for Freo while Sandilands is a huge out. Carrazzo, Yarran and Laidler are all big outs for Carlton but Walker is also a big in for Blues. The blues are a head in front of Fremantle with class but there are a fair few outs for the Blues here. Fremantle were lucky to win against the Saints. The blues will come into this and wake up. They won’t let another game slip by like what happened against the Dockers. Fremantle may be leading at 3 QTR time but watch for Blues to swooooop late and take this game. Carlton are $1.65 yet 59% of people have picked Fremantle. This is the game to claw back a tip!
Carlton by 17 points
Line: Carlton -4.5

Greater Western Sydney ($10.00) vs Western Bulldogs ($1.05) – Saturday 1:45pm AEST – 28/04/2012
Recent clashes: First clash
AFL Tipping: 4% Giants 96% Bulldogs
Game preview: Lake is a big in for the Dogs with Gia out injured a big loss. Giants lose Palmer, Brogan and Mohr to injury with some good youngsters coming back in. The Dogs are in the bottom 6 teams in the league this year but with the teams listed, they are a class above the Giants. If it is a really wet day, the Giants should get close to the dogs here.
Western Bulldogs by 34 points
Line: Greater Western Sydney Giants +64.5

North Melbourne Kangaroos ($1.02) vs Gold Coast Suns ($13.00) – Saturday 4:40pm AEST – 28/04/2012
Recent clashes: Roos beat Suns by 59 points in their only meeting last year
AFL Tipping: 98% Kangaroos 2% Suns
Game preview: Massive outs for the Suns with Ablett and Harbrow injured.. Roos lose Mcmahon to Illness and dropped Goldestein with all handy players back in. Expect the Suns to get SMASHED in this game especially in Melbourne. You are getting a good price on the Roos here with the team the Suns will be bringing down. Very little experience in their team. They may stick it out for two QTRs but won’t go the whole match. Roos will run them off their feet.
North Melbourne by 105 points
Line: North Melbourne -80.5

Melbourne Demons ($6.00) vs St Kilda Saints ($1.13) – Saturday 7:40pm AEST – 28/04/2012
Recent clashes: Saints have won the last 6 in a row including last win by 20 points
AFL Tipping: 3% Demons 97% Saints
Game preview: The Demons were poor last week while the Saints were unlucky to not knock off the Dockers. Koschizke is a bigger out than you may think for the Saints with Gram a handy in. Sylvia and Grimes are both welcome sights for the Demons but Clark injured is a big out. The saints will need to find another person to kick their goals but expect them to have a good go at the Demons defense.
St Kilda by 50
Line: St Kilda -38.5

Brisbane Lions ($3.70) vs Geelong Cats ($1.28) – Saturday 7:45pm AEST – 28/04/2012
Recent clashes: Cats have won 7 of the last 8 with a 29 point win last year at the Gabba
AFL Tipping: 7% Lions 93% Cats
Game preview: As expected last week, the Cats won a hard fought close match with the Tigers. We got the Lions game wrong with the Suns dominating the first 2 QTRs but not converting. Scarlett is a big back for the Cats in this match. Expect another match that will be close at times but the quality of the cats will get them an easy win.
Geelong by 40 points
Line: Cats -21.5

Hawthorn Hawks ($1.33) vs Sydney Swans ($3.30) – Sunday 1:10pm AEST – 29/04/2012
Recent clashes: Both teams have won 4 games of the last 8. Hawks beat Swans by 46 in round 9 of last year
AFL Tipping: 89% Hawks 11% Swans
Game preview:  The Swans were great on the weekend with a 6 goal win over North Melbourne. Hawthorn were decent also in a very poor skill game. Adam Goodes and Lewis Roberts-Tomson are very handy Ins for the Swans while the hawks will also welcome back Birchall, Hodge, Breust and Puopolo. Hawthorn have a brilliant win rate down at Tasmania but the ground is notorious for low scoring games with very few teams scoring over 100 points, especially when you have two teams of this class. We don’t have the… guts? to tip the Swans here but they will go VERY close. They have kept every team to under 85 points this year which works towards the ground while scoring 94 or more in every game.
Hawthorn by 6 points
Line: Sydney +20.5

Richmond Tigers ($3.15) vs West Coast Eagles ($1.35) – Sunday 3:15pm AEST – 29/04/2012
Recent clashes: Eagles won 4 of last 7 with a 57 point win last year in round 20
AFL Tipping: 8% Tigers 92% Eagles

Game preview: Eagles are currently the best team in the league. They are travelling very well and have not been struck by any big injuries during the season. The Tigers are also going well with injuries but they are not a top 8 team while the Eagles are pushing to finish in top 2 this year. Eagles play well at Etihad stadium which is another bonus for them. If this was at the MCG we would think this would be a lot closer. Tigers will struggle to compete with the Eagles in every area of the ground.
West Coast Eagles by 42 points

Line: West Coast -18.5

Adelaide Crows ($1.50) vs Port Adelaide Power ($2.60) – Sunday 4:10pm ACST – 29/04/2012
Recent clashes: Both teams have won 5 of last 10 games. Crows won last years round 19 clash by 32
AFL Tipping: 89% Crows 11% Power
Game preview: Adelaide have been found out for the team that they are the last couple of weeks, overrated. Look back to round 2 where Adelaide only just beat Western Bulldogs by 18 points. They were found out a week later against the Hawks by 64 points. Port Adelaide on the other hand have been playing very well against quality teams and battled well against Collingwood last week. Vince is a big out for Adelaide while Johncock is a handy in. Port Adelaide ganin back Rodan who is a very handy in also while Gray is obviously out for the season injured. It will be a close game and with only 11% tipping power, we want to gain a tip here.
Port Adelaide by 10 points
Line: Port Adelaide +12.5

Betting
West Coast Eagles $1.50 to win (taken on Monday and put up on Twitter) –  Still like the Line bet right now also if you want (-18.5)
North Melbourne -64..5 at $1.51
Carlton Blues 1-39 at $2.45
Port Adelaide 1-39 at $3.20
Hawthorn 1-39 at $2.20

Covering all things Australian Rules Football for The Profits. I’ve been a passionate supporter and follower of AFL for as long as I can remember. Having been born into a family with deep football history and tradition on both sides, you can say it runs through my blood. I’ve got a keen interest in the stats and analysis of the game, which helped me finish in the top 100 of fantasy competitions DreamTeam and Supercoach last year. While my own local football career was cut short due to injury at 22, it has created an opportunity for me to frequently watch and build a deep knowledge of the sport at its highest level. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and views throughout the season.
