MLB Week 20 Preview & Bets

Welcome back to another look at some MLB action. After a reasonably successful week where plenty of value was around hopefully we can continue that theme and start the new week off with a bang ! The serious part of the season is inching closer each week and the fight for the playoffs is getting tighter and tighter. I don’t think we could say any team as yet has a division title in their hands, the Tigers have been pegged back, the A’s and Angels are going at it, Yankees have stayed in reach of the super impressive Orioles. Giants still in reach of the Dodgers, likewise with Braves and Nats. NL Central is a 4 team race. Plenty of twists and turns on the way that’s for sure.

Sunday  10th

Best Bet –  Over 8.5 Rockies/D-Backs at $2.01

Next Best –  Under 7.0 Padres/Pirates at $2.01

Multi  –  Indians/Royals at $3.43 (0.5 Units)

One of the more tougher Sundays in recent weeks.

Cleveland Indians vs New York Yankees  (3am AEST)

Indians ($1.92)  – Kluber

Yankees ($1.92) – McCarthy

Over/Under  –  Over 7.5 ($2.05) Under 7.5 ($1.80)

Prediction

Indians. Kluber has been one relatively bright spark on an Indians team that is treading water, 6.5 games back on the division and no chance of a wild card spot they will be hoping to finish over .500 and build from there. Impressive record of 12-6 with an ERA of 2.55, solid in last outing and 3-0 with an ERA of 0.79 in his last 3 starts, Kluber should be able to hold the Yanks down.  Yankees have been  able to hang in there for the post season picture and not give up hope of sending Jeter out on a high. McCarthy has been great since joining New York, change of scenery has done the job. 4-0  with a 2.08 ERA in 5 starts since wearing the famous pin stripes.Yankees lineup has been improved upon with the addition of Headley and Prado. Kluber is the better of the 2 pitchers though and Cleveland do have a better offense then the Yankees. Have to side with the Indians but it is likely to be a close one.

Suggested Bet

Indians at $1.92

San Diego Padres vs Pittsburgh Pirates  (9am AEST)

Padres ($2.43)  – Stults

Pirates ($1.59) – Liriano

Over/Under  –  Over 7.0 ($2.01) Under 7.0 ($1.84)

Prediction

Pirates. Liriano has been great since his return from the DL, in those 5 starts he has an ERA of 2.17. In his last 7 starts he has not allowed more than 4 hits. Solid numbers, however his season record still hangs at 3-7 with an ERA of 3.91. The Pirates team is currently decimated with injuries and it’s a patchwork line up trying to keep them in the playoff picture for the time being. NL MVP candidate McCutchen currently sidelined being the biggest lose. San Diego pitcher Stults got a win in his last outing, yet 4-13 on the season with a tough ERA to take in 4.94, considering his home games are in the pitcher friendly Petco Park. Even though Pittsburgh now have the 3rd best offense in the NL and are coming up against a struggling pitcher, I don’t see too many runs in this one due to the depleted Pittsburgh line up. Liriano should be able to keep a league worse offense in the Padres quiet for a few. Wouldn’t touch the $1.59 on offer for the head to head as it could be too close for comfort, the under 7.0 looks the play.

Suggested Bet

Under 7.0 at $2.01

San Francisco Giants vs Kansas City Royals  (9am AEST)

Giants ($2.07)  – Hudson

Royals ($1.79)  – Shields

Over/Under  –  Over 7.5 ($2.05) Under 7.5 ($1.80)

Prediction

Royals. Tough game to call and both teams need every win they can to gain ground on their respective division leaders. Shields was solid in his last outing in a win over the A’s pitching 8 innings with 4 hits and 2 earned runs. 10-6 on the years with an ERA of 3.43. The Royals are an enigma of a team, they can score runs but they currently have the least home runs hit in all of the league. Solid pitching, and when they score more than 4 runs they tend to win. Early season success from Hudson seems like a long time ago, while still solid he has had his shares of rough outings, picking up only 2 wins in his last 10 starts. Giants have bounced back well after a slump that saw them drop the lead in the NL West. Hitting better of late Sandoval and the always consistent Pence being the catalyst for a run back at the Dodgers. However if Shields is in control and is locating his pitched well think the Royals scrape this. Will be tight.

Suggested Bet

Royals at $1.79

Other Suggested Bets

Colorado Rockies vs Arizona Diamondbacks (10am AEST)

I’ll cut to the chase. The run line is set at 8.5. Only 2 of the 9 games they have played against each other this season have NOT gone over that. Over 8.5 runs at $2.01 will do me.
