English Premier League 2017/18 – Game Week 31

English Premier League - Football

This weekend is a shortened edition of the Premier League due to a number of conflicting FA Cup fixtures taking place. The end result is just 4 league matches to take place but there’s still a degree of importance to a number of those taking place, particularly in the fight for survival. West Brom for a start are 8 points off safety as they head to Bournemouth in what looks like it will be another tough day at the office. Palace are in a less critical condition to West Brom but sit in the drop zone all the same and have a tough away trip to Huddersfield. Stoke too have a tough fixture against the underperforming Everton where a win will temporarily put them out of the relegation places. There’s a lack of enticing fixtures at the top of the table this weekend, but there will be plenty of fight at the bottom of it.

**Odds from Sportsbet.com.au as of 15th March

Bournemouth vs West Brom

Bournemouth were well beaten in the end by Tottenham but they did have their chances to cause an upset. Having taken the lead early, they had a few good chances to make it 2-0 before Tottenham clawed their way back into the contest and then ended up putting the foot down late in the second half. They have a great chance to redeem themselves this weekend against a West Brom side who look like they have given up. 8 points off safety with 8 matches to go looks like a mountain to climb for the visitors this weekend and they’ll truly need a big turn of form to get a result here. The Baggies are in some terrible away form conceding 13 times in their last 6 and scoring just twice.

Predicted Result: Bournemouth 3-0

Best Bet: Bournemouth to win at $1.83

Best Value Bet: Bournemouth to win to Nil at $3.1

Huddersfield vs Crystal Palace

The visitors have lost 3 of their last 4 away matches which isn’t a great lead in to this match. They have however started to welcome back some key players to the team such as Zaha. He’ll be a welcome return as he continues to build up his match fitness and may push his side to a decent result here. Palace haven’t been particularly impressive away from home this season but in recent times they have scored in each of their last 6 away matches and may cause some trouble for the home side. Huddersfield may have only lost 5 times at home this season but they don’t have the goal scoring capability to outscore a Palace side that has been on a decent run of goal scoring form on the road.

Predicted Result: Draw 1-1

Best Bet: BTTS – Yes at $1.91

Best Value Bet: Draw at $3.1

Stoke vs Everton

Everton are plain and simple a better side on paper, but the truth is they are a terrible away side at the moment. From 15 matches on the road, they have just 8 points to show for it and their recent run of it is nothing short of miserable. In their last 5 matches, which they have lost all of them, they have scored just 3 times and conceded 14. Even against Stoke, who are fighting for survival, it’s difficult to give them any sort of hope here. The Potters at least have some sort of decent home form leading into this match. In their last 4 they have lost just once (against Manchester City) and have conceded just 3 goals. Everton are clearly still working themselves out and may have a tough result here against a Stoke side that looks hungry for points in order to survive.

Predicted Result: Stoke 2-1

Best Bet: Stoke to win at $2.4

Best Value Bet: Stoke to win and BTTS at $5

Liverpool vs Watford

Liverpool slipped to 4th spot last time out after their loss to arch rivals Manchester United. They can however restore themselves up to 3rd with Tottenham not playing this weekend and they should do so with relative ease against Watford. The visitors have taken just 1 point in their last 6 away which is not a great record considering Liverpool have been piling on the goals at home recently. Liverpool have scored 19 times in their last 6 and will be eager for more. Salah too may see this as another great opportunity to take advantage of the injured Harry Kane in the golden boot race. Tough day for Watford ahead, particularly when you look at their last visit to Anfield – 6-1 to Liverpool.

Predicted Result: Liverpool 4-0

Best Bet: Liverpool to win to Nil at $1.91

Best Value Bet: Liverpool to win & Over 3.5 goals at $2.3

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
