UK Horse Racing Form – Catterick, Leicester, Brighton, Tipperary and Wolverhampton – Tuesday 9 Octob

Horse Racing - Australia

Last year’s JCB Triumph Hurdle winner Countrywide Flame is favourite to land the Heritage Handicap, the Betfred Cesarewitch on Saturday. John Quinn’s four-year-old heads the market at 10/1, with Mark Johnston’s Hurricane Higgins and David Simcock’s Montaser hot on his heels at 12/1. Others in the line-up include Repeater for Sir Mark Prescott at 16/1 and Olympiad for Dermot Weld, priced up at 14′s. It’s a largely competitive handicap with several interesting types. Montaser is a horse we have followed closely this season and he proved himself over the 2m trip when stepping up at Ascot in style. He lost nothing in defeat latest, finishing a close three-quarter-length second to Handsome Man at Yarmouth. He is lightly-raced and will have to improve again to take this. We will be posting our thoughts and selections a little later in the week. Fifty-five horses have currently been entered for the Betfred Cesarewitch. With a maximum safety limit of thirty-four, it is likely the market will be fluctuating somewhat between now and Saturday. Having been declared, Betfred decided to cut Countrywide Flame from 10′s into 9/1 clear favourite. The clerk of the course Michael Prosser described the going at Newmarket on Monday as good to soft. He did add that the ground is drying up all the time, but 9mm of rain is expected on Thursday evening. Saturday is expected to be dry with sunny spells. As the flat season comes to a close, Newmarket also hosts two Group One’s the Dewhurst and Middle Park, and it’s a card not to be missed!
