William Buick remains hopeful that he’ll be able to ride both Nathaniel and Ortensia in their respective Group One targets this weekend. It’s a tough ask considering the Betfred Sprint Cup is at 3.25pm at Haydock, and the Irish Champion Stakes is just two hours and twenty minutes later in Leopardstown, Ireland. Connections of Ortensia are keen to get Buick as he works so well with the horse, as he demonstrated at York in the Nunthorpe a couple of weeks ago. Nathaniel remains Buick’s priority for the Irish Champion Stakes for his boss, John Gosden. The Coral-Eclipse winner is a 6/4 shot to land more Group One success, and Buick will be keen to do so having gone so close in the King George of late. ”There are no definite plans at this stage. I don’t really know any more than I did on Saturday,” said Buick. ”Obviously I would very much like to ride both horses. It is still possible I could do both, but my loyalty is to John Gosden. I haven’t made a firm decision yet. It is still five days away and in racing terms that is quite a long time, so we’ll see.”
