MLB Week 14 Preview & Bets

Welcome back to another preview for the coming days action in the world of Major League Baseball. Safe to say there are some really exciting games over the next few days, some great pitching match ups and some possible series that could make or break a team’s season heading into the trading period. Will GM’s consider if their team are challengers or is it time to shift out some players and bring in some prospects. We have already seen a few teams attempt to strengthen their bullpen, and with talk around that a few big name starting pitchers may be moved on it’s all heating up heading into the All Star Break. On to the games we are keen on where we look to make it a winning Sunday for the 3rd week in a row.

Sunday  29th

Best Bet –  Yankees -1.5  $2.26 (2U)

Next Best –  White Sox $1.89 (1U)

Next Best –  Under 8.5 Rangers/Twins $1.73 (1U)

Multi  –  Tigers/Cardinals  $3.97 (0.5U)

St Louis Cardinals vs LA Dodgers  (9am AEST)

Cardinals ($2.34)  – Lynn

Dodgers ($1.63) – Greinke

Over/Under  –  Over 6.5 ($1.99) Under 6.5 ($1.86)

Prediction

Cardinals. Lynn is in sparking form 8-5 on the season with an ERA of 2.90. His last outing he allowed only 3 singles over 8 innings and has 20K’s (Strikeouts) with only 3 earned runs over his last 3 starts. Grienke 9-4 with an ERA of 2.89 has slumped a little of late when compared to his early season form. Dodgers winning only 1 of his last 5 starts. Cardinals bats are hitting 0.290 against him and they are starting to get some batting help to aid their pitching. Dodgers are very similar to the Cards that they have tremendous Pitching depth but a batting line up that is not living up to expectations. Apart from Puig who has been tremendous this seasons it’s safe to say the rest of them have under performed. It is a very even matchup however the price on offer for the Cardinals is too good, and the Dodgers here are way too short.

Suggested Bet

Cardinals $2.34

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees  (9am AEST)

Red Sox ($2.48)  – Lester

Yankees ($1.58) – Tanaka

Over/Under  –  Over 7.0 ($2.01) Under 7.0 ($1.84)

Prediction

Yankees. Great game, great pitching. Biggest rivalry in MLB loving this game being on a day I can actually enjoy watching it. Tanaka has been amazing as we all know, 11-2 with an ERA of 2.11. His last start was rough but that happens and he will bounce back. Tanaka pitched 7 innings with 7K’s and only 2 earned runs in his only encounter with the Sox earlier this year. Lester 8-7 with a solid ERA of 3.14. He has been handy of late however his record against the Yanks over the last 3 seasons reads an ERA of 4.57, 5.02 in Yankee Stadium. Boston are an odd team this year, really missing something on the offense side of the game and have been bailed out a few times by Ortiz. Likely to struggle to get runs on the board again here if Tanaka is at his peak so I’m going to be taking Yankees with the -1.5 line for the value.

Suggested Bet

Yankees -1.5 $2.26

Detroit Tigers vs Houston Astros  (6am AEST)

Tigers ($1.70)  – Scherzer

Astros ($2.21) – Keuchel

Over/Under  –  Over 7.5 ($1.86) Under 7.5 ($1.99)

Prediction

Tigers. Love this series, team of the present against a team for the future. Tigers are on a roll since dropping the AL Central lead. Winning 7 straight heading into this series. Their bats are heating up and hopefully for them their Aces on the mound can get back to last seasons form. Scherzer 9-3 with an ERA of 3.71, rebounded in his last outing pitching 6 innings with 1 run and 8K’s. Keuchel has been a huge plus for this young Houston team and he looks a real star pitcher in the making. Currently 8-5 with an ERA of 2.78. This Astros team has some huge potential with players like Springer and Altuve but at the moment they are just not putting up consistent enough performances and have too many weak spots in the bullpen and on the field to compete over the long term. They are likely to put up some fight against the Tigers however the price given for Detroit is good enough for me.

Suggested Bet

Detroit $1.70

Other Suggested Bets

Chicago White Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays (3am AEST)

Chris Sale pitching $1.89. Enough said. In all seriousness this match up is very even. Sale was not at his best in his last outing so he will be looking to bounce back. Rogers Centre is a good ball park for runs, if Sale can keep the Jays contained and go deep into the game, 7 innings etc. They will win. Chicago to win at $1.89.

Minnesota Twins vs Texas Rangers (6am AEST)

Yu Darvish is looking to bounce back after a rough last outing by his standards. Up against Phil Hughes who has been tremendous this season in a struggling Twins teams. Predict a low scoring game with the Rangers winning. Taking the under 8.5 at $1.73.
