Champions League Final – 2017

champions league

The big one happens this weekend with a tantalising matchup between Juventus and Real Madrid. There will be some history on offer here for Real Madrid as they attempt to become the first side in history to retain the Champions League Trophy. Juventus though look a seriously formidable outfit so Real Madrid will have a lot of work to do if they are to achieve such a feat. It’s one that could go either way but is also a match that looks on paper like a fantastic battle.

**Odds from Sportsbet as at 1st June

Juventus vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid will be boosted after the return to fitness of Gareth Bale but it’ll be interesting to see if he returns straight up or is used as an impact of the bench. There’s the very real possibility though that this contest could go into extra time given the defensive strength of Juventus and perhaps Bale may be better suited coming on in the second half with a little more freshness where he can be even more damaging.

In previous meetings between these two, there’s certainly been a trend of goals with both sides scoring in the last 4, 3 of which ended up over 2.5 goals. There’s no reason why this won’t follow a similar trend in terms of both sides scoring. Juventus are of course a formidable outfit defensively, but we’re talking about a Real Madrid side blessed with attacking talent that can trouble anyone. Juventus themselves are not shy on attacking talent with the likes of Dybala, Higuain and Mandzukic.

This will be a tight contest overall given it does look very evenly matched. Juventus have only conceded 3 times in their Champions League campaign but they may have to settle for letting another one through. Given their own attacking strengths, they too should be able to break down Real Madrid to keep things even. In the end this looks like a 1-1 draw that will then head into extra time. In extra time anything can happen of course but neither will likely give an inch in that period so we could end up with penalties deciding the outcome in this one. It’ll be a thrilling ending but also heartbreaking for one of these sides.

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
