English Premier League – Match Day 12 – 2016

English Premier League - Football

Welcome to week 12 of the English Premier league. It’s felt like an eternity since the last time we had Premier League action but there’s plenty this weekend to make up for the absence. Saturday night will kick the weekend’s action into gear nicely with Manchester United hosting Arsenal. United are desperate for another win after just one in their last 5 which has seen them fall to 6th on the table. They’ll have a fair task ahead given Arsenal sit comfortable in 4th a full 6 points ahead. Further ahead, Liverpool will look to continue their exhilarating form at the top of the table. 30 goals from 11 games is a sensational return but 19 of these have come in their last 6 matches. At the moment they look unstoppable but it’ll be interesting to see how they get back into things after the international break.

H to H Multi Bet: Liverpool Win ($2.1), Tottenham Win ($1.53), Stoke Win ($2.3), Manchester City Win ($1.53) = $11.3

Match Day 10 Best Bet: Southampton versus Liverpool – Over 2.5 goals at $1.67

**Odds from Sportsbet as at 17th November

Manchester United vs Arsenal

No doubting the form side between these two at the moment, but coming off the International break things can be a little less predictable. United had a win before the break against Swansea but their form prior to that has been pretty poor and they need to continue what they started away at Swansea. The issue though is that under Mourinho they’re likely to approach this match pretty defensively in an effort to stifle Arsenal’s attacks given they have been fairly prolific with 24 goals this season. Arsenal were frustrated last time out against Tottenham where they managed just the 1 goal with Spurs setting up with 3 at the back. United won’t necessarily take the same approach but this match is pointing to a draw.

Predicted score: Draw 1-1
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals at $1.87 (75%)
Next Best:  Half-time Draw at $2.1

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City

Palace have had 4 straight losses and are staring at 5 straight when they take on Manchester City. City are another side that hasn’t had the best run of it lately with just 1 win from their last 5, but they could benefit from the International break in trying to shake off that negative run of form. At their best this season, City have been unbeatable but they still seem to have a bit of a knack for dropping points like they did last season in games they should have won. The same can be said for Palace in that the break may have done them some good to reset, but it’s difficult to see City dropping 3 points here.

Predicted score: Manchester City 2-0
Best Bet: Manchester City to win at $1.53 (90%)
Next Best: Manchester City -1 handicap at $2.37

Everton vs Swansea

Neither side has been in great form lately but for Swansea they have a hell of a lot more problems than that of Everton. Still just 1 win for the season, Swansea need a break through and quickly. Apart from the poor results, their issues stem from a lack of goals. The departure of Ayew has left a hole in that area and one that Llorente looks incapable of filling for the moment. Everton haven’t been playing the best lately but coming off the break and after a 5-0 thumping at Chelsea they’ll be keen to forget that result quickly for a strong win here.

Predicted score: Everton 3-0
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals at $1.67 (80%)
Next Best: Everton to win at $1.57

Southampton vs Liverpool

This looks a very interesting game not least because Liverpool have been scoring for fun. It’s something Southampton will be keen to shut down and on home form this season they’re certainly capable. They’ve conceded just 5 times in 5 home games, 2 of which came in their last home game against Chelsea. The problem is that whilst defensively they have been pretty good, it’s difficult to see how they can stop the multiple attacking threats that Liverpool have. If it isn’t Firmino or Sturridge causing problems, then there’s still Mane, Coutinho and Lallana. The flexibility and depth they have in attack is immense and although Southampton may subdue them slightly, Liverpool should still get the win here.

Predicted score: Liverpool 2-1
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 1.67 (90%)
Next Best: Liverpool to win at $2.1

Stoke vs Bournemouth

The Potters are on a good run of home form with 2 straight wins whilst their undefeated in their last 6 after a pretty poor start to the season. In contrast, Bournemouth have lost their last two matches after their own decent run of form. They haven’t had much fun of it on the road either with just the 2 points from a possible 15 and a lowly 3 goals scored. Stoke haven’t been that great at home defensively overall but their improvement in their last 3 games has been huge with just 2 goals conceded compared to 8 in their first 2 home games. There’s always a chance of a hard fought away draw in this one but Stoke are looking more like the side that finished 9th last season.

Predicted score: Stoke 2-1
Best Bet: Stoke to win at $2.3 (75%)
Next Best: Stoke to win either half at $1.63

Sunderland vs Hull

Both had wins last time out and now have the opportunity of making it two in a row. Hull have already achieved that this season when they won their first two matches whilst for Sunderland, their win away at Bournemouth was their first of the season. Despite the International break perhaps robbing the potential for some momentum, they seem the more likely of the two to get another win here. A home match against a side that has struggled on the road really couldn’t have come at a better time for them. A gret opportunity to kick start their season and push themselves off the bottom of the table. It might not be a goal fest but a win is a win.

Predicted score: Sunderland 1-0
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals at $1.71 (80%)
Next Best: Sunderland to win either half at $1.57

Watford vs Leicester

The reigning Champions are still on a patchy form run in the league and they face a tricky away trip to Watford this weekend. Watford are undefeated in their last 3 home matches whilst interestingly Leicester boast the worst away record in the league with 1 point from 5 games and a goal difference of -10. They have however had a very tough run away from home but with Watford looking difficult to beat at home, they may have to settle for a draw.

Predicted score: Draw 0-0
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals at $1.71 (85%)
Next Best: Half-time Draw at $2

Tottenham vs West Ham

Spurs love a draw and they already have 6 of them this season. The positive is that they are still undefeated but the increasing number of draws is a worrying trend in that they are missing opportunities for more wins. They’ve drawn their last 4 league matches and face a side that has been a bit of a thorn in their side in recent seasons. The Hammers beat them in their last meeting 1-0 and giving them 2 wins and a draw in their last 5 meetings. The thing that may turn things around for Tottenham this week though is West Ham’s form has been poor coupled with the return of Harry Kane. Spurs have been missing something up front with his injury but his return couldn’t have come sooner and it should put them in a strong position for this one. Additionally, the expected return of Alderweireld in defence will only strengthen their already best in league defensive record.

Predicted score: Tottenham 2-0
Best Bet: Tottenham to win at $1.53 (80%)
Next Best: Under 2.5 goals at $1.97

Middlesbrough vs Chelsea

The Blues are one of the form sides in the league at the moment and for Middlesbrough it looks to be a tough match ahead. They can take some confidence from their recent run before the International break when they kept Arsenal and Manchester City to draws. If they can keep Chelsea to the same result then that would be an excellent achievement but it often doesn’t happen. Their momentum from that run, where they also beat Bournemouth 2-0, won’t be helped by the International break. That’s even before you look at Chelsea’s results over their last 5 matches where they have an aggregate score of 16-0.

Predicted score: Chelsea 2-0
Best Bet: Chelsea to win at $1.5 (85%)
Next Best: Chelsea to win to Nil at $2.25

West Brom vs Burnley

The Baggies should have this in the bag going by Burnley’s away form this season. At home. ,Burnley have been excellent with just 2 losses from 7 games but on the road they have been quite the opposite. Just the 1 point away from home and just the 1 goal as well does not bode well for an away trip to West Brom who can be quite stubborn. The Baggies haven’t had the greatest time at home this season but given Burnley’s poor performances, it’s difficult to see them getting the points here. Expect to see Burnley keep things tight which may mean a lack of goals but West Brom should have enough to edge it.

Predicted score: West Brom 1-0
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals at $1.62 (90%)
Next Best: West Brom to win either half at $1.51

As an Australian growing up AFL was always my no.1 sport especially given I was lucky enough to grow up a few blocks from Carlton’s home ground, Princes Park, where I was lucky enough to attend many games. That’s where my passion for sport began but it was until the early 2000’s when I discovered a real passion for football with the Socceroos 2002 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay accelerating my football journey. From there I began to follow the Premier League and haven’t looked back since. These days I’m a massive Tottenham fan where I’ve enjoyed many sleepless nights religiously watching them without missing a game despite many roller coaster feelings. There’s just something magical and glamorous when you watch the EPL and knowing the Profits owners Drew and Euan through studies, I’m now lucky enough to be able to share my thoughts on each game each week of the season.
