PIPPY trained by Tom Dascombe, and famously owned by Wayne and Coleen Rooney, finally broke his duck at the fifth time of asking yesterday. The 2-yo Colt out of Exceed And Excel finished last of eight on his debut at Chester back in May where conditions were almost un-raceable. Tom Dascombe had said in a RP Q&A on twitter that he may need the run and so all was not lost, despite Rooney coming under some criticism on twitter! He ran again just under a month later at Carlisle, and unfortunately it was the same outcome finishing seventh of seventh. It was totally different conditions with the ground riding good to firm, and so there could be little excuses. Seven days later he appeared at Folkestone, and it was to be his best performance to date. Despite coming under pressure some way out he stuck on gamely finishing second behind the impressive debutant Joey’s Destiny. His next outing to Pontefract was also encouraging finishing a staying on fourth, and it became evident a step up in trip was needed. He raced over 7f for the first time in his career and again found himself under pressure someway out but responded flying home on the outside to pip Wellingrove and Royal Steps on the line. He shaped as though he would stay even further and it will be interesting to see what Tom has planned for him next. Wayne Rooney was delighted and tweeted yesterday: “So happy. Pippy got 1st win tonight. Thanks @RKingscote”, he also tweeted Richard Kingscote, Pippy‘s trainer who came with a well-timed effort “@RKingscote Thx for riding pippy. 1st win. Were buzzing thanks again mate”.
