An Open Letter to Channel 7

Tennis

How have you found the coverage week 1? Tweet me at @Ace_TheProfits, I would love to hear your feedback!

Dear Channel 7,

What is a ‘Fango’ and what on earth is it doing on my TV screen?

When do “Revenge” and “My Kitchen Rules” come back onto our TV screens? A friend told me it is sometime soon, but I haven’t seen any advertisements for it on the tennis.

Why does your score in your version of tennis start at 15-0 after a change of ends? It seems unfair that someone gets a bonus point at the start of a game like that.

Why do you televise show court 3 when you have exclusive rights to the best in tennis showcasing their talents on Rod Laver Arena?

How hard is it to say Djokovic?

Why is everything in standard definition? Qatar are planning on televising with holograms in 6 years time for the World Cup, yet you still can’t broadcast for TVs that have been out since the late 90’s. What’s with that?

There is no way around the situation, so let’s not mess about. Your coverage has been  ATROCIOUS. You’ve taken everyone for a ride, and you will get away with it because there is nothing we can do about it.

1) Fango is a no-go. Don’t push it in our faces. I’m not sure I’ve heard a positive thing about it from anyone who isn’t affiliated with it in any capacity. It can Fango away in my opinion. Even Rachel Finch couldn’t save it.

2) The contract stipulates that Fox Sports cannot show Rod Laver Arena matches in any capacity throughout the tournament. If you are going to do that deal, then perhaps show Rod Laver Arena a bit more!

Don’t send us over to Hisense (surprised you don’t call it Vodafone Arena that’s how far behind you are) or out to court 13 when you’ve gone to so much effort to ensure nobody else is showing it. I got to watch Li Na vs Lucie Safarova instead (which I could have done on Fox Sports about 10 seconds earlier).  I didn’t see a second of Ferrer vs Chardy the other day, until Fox Sports got to replay it at 6am the next morning.

3) There are a few constant things in tennis. One is how long players have at the change of ends. You’d think then that you’d be able to get back to the match in time for the first point of the next service game.

I’ve lost count of how many times you’ve come back from an ad break and missed the first one or two points. How difficult is it? You can’t say it’s a money issue because the telecast is already saturated with ads to within an inch of its life. It’s safe to say everyone is well aware that My Kitchen Rules and Revenge are back after the tennis.

4) Learning how to pronounce the names of players seems like something that should be done. Damir Dzumhur I will give a free pass for, however Daveeeed Furrurrr amongst others should be able to be pronounced.

5) I have heard some really random stats that are completely irrelevant to the match which we really could do without. Bruce is clearly the main culprit. I sit here wondering when he will come out with something like ‘Novak JOKEVITCH wins 93% of the time when he eats lentils for dinner 2 nights before his match.’ Between that and:

You just feel….

You get the feeling…

It just feels like

It’s annoying!

6) I have heard “Now would be a good time to break” about 30 times. Tell me, when would be a bad time to break?

7) Because of you, some think the Fanatics provided an accurate cross section of Australian society.

I’d argue Bernard Tomic has had a better Australian Open than you guys at Channel 7. Cut down on the errors, and lift for week 2. The only quality thing in your coverage is Steggles, and even that is an ad! Lift guys…..LIFT!! I hope you guys read this. Perhaps I should Fango it to you instead…..

Now Fox Sports, you aren’t getting away without comment either.

On the whole, you’ve been impressive. You’ve covered things well, and in HD, and your show ‘The Serve’ is refreshing and insightful. I would LOVE though to be able to press red and get access to a wealth of courts. The cameras are there, I see them on occasion on that useless Channel 7 megawall. Just leave the camera there recording all day with a full view of the court and all will be okay. We don’t even need commentators, just a camera and a microphone and all will be well!

Just be better, please?

Sincerely,

Ace
